TAYLOR to TURNER

TAYLOR, JOSIAH FLINT
Born in Southboro, MA Nov. 11, 1804 (son of ) Raised to the Sublime Degree of Master Mason in Oxford Lodge, Oxford, MA July 13, 1826 and was exalted to the August Degree of R.A.M. in King Solomon's Chapter, Charlestown, MA in 1828. Affiliated with Lafayette Lodge Sept. 8, 1849; S.W. 1849-50; Master 1851-52; Marshal 1864. He came to North Wayne in 1841 and engaged in the manufacturing of scythes, and under his able management the works at that place became the largest of the kind in the world at that time. He was postmaster at North Wayne for over thirty-two years (1854-1884). He was prominently identified with the Methodist Church for many years and was a man of influence in the State but never held any public office except postmaster. Elected an Honorary Member Aug. 4, 1883. He died at North Wayne May 2, 1886. (Married Nancy Searle in Oxford, MA in 1832. J.F. Taylor is buried in North Wayne Cemetery)


TEBBETTS, LEON OBRA "LO."
Born in Mt. Vernon Dec. 16, 1876 (son of Oscar and Lena <Philbrook> Tebbetts) Raised to the Sublime Degree of Master Mason in Lafayette Lodge Apr. 17, 1897; S.S. 1898; S.D. 1899; J.W. 1900; S.W. 1901; Master 1902-04; D.D.G.M. 1907-08. Member of the Winthrop Chapter, No. 37 R.A.M., Alpha Council and Trinity Commandery K.T. and Lafayette Chapter O.E.S. Treasurer of Readfield 1906. Elected Register of Deeds for Kennebec County in 1906; Secretary of Kennebec County Agricultural Society several years. Originated the movement for the erection by the Stage of the monument over the grace of Ex.-Governor Jonathan Hunton (at Readfield Corner Cemetery). His home is in Readfield and his business is that of merchant tailor (in 1909). (Married in 1902 Tessie May Gile, dgt of Edward H. & Mary <Cudworth> Gile and grand-dgt of Asa & Ursula <Smith> Gile. Leon moved to Burleigh St., Waterville where he served three terms as mayor. He was also the first collector of the internal revenue for Maine and New Hampshire. He and Tessie owned a home near Readfield Corner, 1116 Main St, they inherited from her mother. They maintained that as their summer residence and named "Fern wood Cottage". They were very involved in the Union Meeting House, for one gave money for maintenance of the tower clock. Died in Waterville in 1942, buried Readfield Corner Cemetery.)


TEBBETTS, WILLIAM GARFIELD
Born in Readfield Oct. 23, 1882 (son of Oscar and Lena <Philbrick> Tebbetts, brother of L.O. above) Made a Master Mason in Lafayette Lodge Feb. 4, 1905. He is a solicitor and local manager for International Correspondence School. Lives in Lynn, MA (in 1909. Later lived in Augusta and Portland). (Married in 1906 Lillian Turner, dgt. of Philander & Beulah <Philbrook>, natives of China, ME who later moved to Minnesota where Lillian was born. William died 1958 in Portland. Buried Readfield Corner Cemetery).


THIBEAULT, PIERRE "PETER"
Born in St. Gervais, P.Q. Canada Aug. 1844. Raised to the Sublime Degree of Master Mason in Lafayette Lodge Mar. 22, 1873. A workman for the scythe shops for many years, first at Fayette and then at Skowhegan. Died in Skowhegan Mar. 16, 1909. (Married Georgiana Nolin, sister or dgt. of Gervais Nolin previously mentioned. Pierre / Peter is buried in Southside Cemetery, Skowhegan.)


THORN, ICHABOD
Place and date of birth not known. Neither is it known where he received his Masonic degrees. Affiliated with Lafayette Lodge Oct. 18, 1827. He was a carpenter by trade and went to South America many years ago where he died.


TURNER, AUGUSTUS RODOLPHUS
Born Sept. 3, 1852 at North Monmouth (son of ? and Jane Turner) Made a Master Mason in Lafayette Lodge Feb. 13, 1875 and was a Steward 1876-79. He was a clerk for Bro. Henry C. Packard and was postmaster at Readfield 1877-78. He was engaged in publishing a county directory at the time of his death. His home was in Auburn. He was a passenger on the steamer Portland Nov. 27, 1898 and was lost with the rest of the company in that terrible disaster. (Married Lillie Bickford who pre-deceased him in 1893. The stone over her grave at Readfield Corner Cemetery memorialized Augustus noting that he was "lost at sea")
