NESBITT to NOLIN

NESBITT, SAMUEL
Born in Lebanon, Maine Apr. 22, 1802 (son of Charles and Judith <Downs> Nesbitt). Made a Master Mason in Lafayette Lodge Oct. 3, 1857; Tyler 1868-1870 and 1875 and 1879; J.S. 1858-59. He was a most constant attendant at the meetings of the lodge to the very last of his life. He was a railroad engineer and machinist and during and after the late war was employed by the York and Erie Railroad. He was made an Honorary Member Feb. 4, 1882. He died at Readfield Jan. 1, 1891 and was buried (at Readfield Corner Cemetery) with Masonic rites. (Married Sophia Brackett in Lebanon, ME in 1826)


NICKERSON, HEZEKIAH OWEN "H.O."
Born in Waterville, Maine Feb. 10, 1833 (son of Hiram Snow and Mary Jane <Smith> Nickerson). Raised to Sublime degree of Master Mason in Lafayette Lodge Mar. 12, 1859; secretary 1859060; J.W. 1861-63; S.W. 1864-65; Master 1866-68 and 1886-87; D.D.G.M. 12th Masonic Dist. 1881-1883. Secretary Kennebec Agricultural Society many years. Member and Master of Readfield Grange, P. of H. He was a member of the 1st Maine Calvary in the Civil War. He was a farmer (on Nickerson Hill Road). Died at his home in Readfield Sept. 17, 1891. (Married Georgiana Packard in 1864. After Nickerson died she remarried, to Judge Emery O. Bean in 1896 - also a Mason who owned the building where the second Masonic Lodge was relocated to after the revival of 1849 following the "dark days of Masons". All are buried at Readfield Corner Cemetery)


NICKERSON, AUGUSTUS ALDEN
Born in Strong, Maine Feb. 14, 1838 (son of Hiram Snow and Mary Jane <Smith> Nickerson, brother of H.O. above).  Made a Master Mason in Lafayette Lodge Mar. 3, 1860; J.D. 1862. He learned the photographers art in its early days and was in the business several years. Some of the portraits in Masonic Hall are his work (probably burned in the fire of 1921 as only records, papers and the secretary's desk were rescued). He went west many years ago and engaged in ranching and the railroad business. He is now a farmer and lives in Topeka, KS. (Married Fannie Dane of Fayette in 1869. By 1885 they were living in Nickerson, KS, then on to other towns of Cedar and Soldier before settling down in Topeka by 1916).


NICKERSON, ARTHUR SNOW
Born in Readfield Sept. 21, 1866 (son of H.O. and Georgiana <Packard> Nickerson above). Made a Master Mason in Lafayette Lodge Jul 2, 1898; Secretary 1902 and 1908. A member and Worthy Patron of Lafayette Chapter O.E.S. and a member and former Master of Readfield Grange P. of H. Educated at Kents Hill School. Has always lived on the hoe farm on which he and his brother Walter still operate. Member of board of selectmen of Readfield 1900-02. (Married Eugenia Shaw in 1903. Moved to Northbridge, MA after 1910 where he died in 1951. Buried there in Pine Grove Cemetery)


NICKERSON, WALTER, AUGUSTUS
Born in Readfield Dec. 23, 1869 (son of H.O. and Georgiana <Packard> Nickerson and brother of Arthur above). Made a Master Mason in Lafayette Lodge July 2, 1898; S.S. 1899; J.W. 1901; S.W. 1902-03; Master 1904-05. Has always lived and still continues to live on the home farm in Readfield, (Nickerson Hill Road in 1909). Is a member of Lafayette Chapter O.E.S. and of Readfield Grange P. of H. Educated at Kents Hill School. (Married Mary E. Austin in 1906. Walter died in 1948, buried in Readfield Corner Cemetery)


NOLIN, GERVAIS
Born at St. Gervais, Prov. of Quebec Feb. 15, 1830 (son of Francois, III and Marguerite <Cabot> Nolin). Raised to Sublime degree of Master Mason in Lafayette Lodge Jan. 27, 1855; S.S. 1856-57. Made an Honorary Member Oct. 7, 1905. When eighteen years old he came to North Wayne where he was employed in the scythe shops for fifteen years.  From 1863 to 1870 he was Supt. of Dunn Edge Tool Works at Fayette and from 1870 to 1878 held the same position in Oakland. He removed to Skowhegan in 1878 and engaged in the manufacturing of scythes himself. He lives in Skowhegan (in 1909 with his son Frank and family, widowed ). (Married Celia Fillebrown, dgt. of Luther and Hannah <White> Fillebrown of Readfield, in 1852. Died 7/1915 in Skowhegan, buried in Southside Cemetery.)
