RECORD to RUSSELL

RECORD, WILLIAM CLEMENT "W.C."
Born in Hallowell, Maine Jan. 24, 1837 (son of Isaac and Martha <Douglass> Record) Made a Master Mason in Lafayette Lodge Jan. 1, 1888. From the time he was eight years old he was for a number of years he was a sailor. In 1859 he went to the California gold mines; later he went to Nevada, where for eighteen years he was engaged in mining, lumbering and stock trading. From 1887 to 1888 he was engaged in farming at Kents Hill (owned / lived on the "Kent Farm"); in later years he purchased the grist mill at (Factory Square) Readfield which he continued to operate in connection with a general grain business, until a short time before his death. One of the selectmen in Readfield 1883-84. He died at his Readfield home July 13, 1907. (Married Melvina S. Dunn in 1870, dgt of Samuel and Abigail <Haines> Dunn of Hallowell).


RECORD, CHARLES DUNN
Born in Redwood City, CA Mar. 12, 1873 (son of W.C. and Made a Master Mason in Lafayette Lodge Jan. 31, 1895; J.D. 1895; S.D. 1896; J.W. 1897-98. Educated at Kents Hill School and for fifteen years was engaged in the printing business at Augusta, Readfield and Waterville. Died suddenly at Oakland, Maine Sept. 27, 1907 and is buried at Readfield (Corner Cemetery). (In 1899 he married Ruby Weston, dgt. of Thomas Milton and Alice (Haines) Weston of Winthrop and Readfield. After his death she married Benjamin Harriman, Jr.)


RICE, PEABODY HARRIMAN
Born in Meredith, NH Aug. 11, 1797 (son of Nathaniel and Jane <Swasey> Rice). Made a Master Mason in Lafayette Lodge June 30, 1828 but did not affiliate with the lodge. He moved to Monson in 1837 and became a member of Kineo Lodge at Abbot and very likely became a member of Doric Lodge in Monson. He became a very enthusiastic Mason. He was Capt. of the Militia Co. at Mt. Vernon. At Mt. Vernon he carried on the business of clothier and dyer and for that purpose with a partner built a brick mill at the village. At Monson he kept a tavern for sixteen years and then retired to a small farm. He was injured in an accident with a runaway horse and for five years was a helpless invalid. He died Sept. 1872 and was buried with Masonic rites, according to his wishes.


RICE, RICHARD KENDALL
Born in Meredith, NH Jan. 3, 1799 (son of Nathaniel and Jane <Swasey> Rice) and came with his parents to Mt. Vernon as a child. Where he was made a Mason is not known. Affiliated with Lafayette Lodge Mar. 23, 1826. Many years ago he removed to Portland, (Chelsea, MA), New York and finally to California. He is said to have been an active businessman but in what line has not been learned. He died in California many years ago. (Married Mary Burton in 1824. In 1850 he was living in Portland and his occupation was "botanic medicine". Died May 3, 1873 in San Rafael, California. Buried in the Masonic Cemetery, San Francisco)


RICH, JOSEPH WALDO VINAL
Born in Chesterville, Maine April 5, 1849 (son of Joseph H and Martha <Lewis> Rich). Made a Master Mason in Lafayette Lodge April 15, 1876. Made a Chapter Mason in Winthrop Chapter and the Orders of Knighthood were conferred on him in St. John's Commandery, Providence R.I. in which he was Prelate. By profession he was a teacher, having taught most successfully at the Maine Wesleyan Seminary (Kents Hill School) and afterwards as Principal of Edward Little High School, Auburn, Maine; Somersworth High School, New Hampshire; Woonsocket, R.I. High School and Messer St. Grammar School, Providence, R.I. He was also a minister of the Methodist Church but not as pastor of any church. Died in Providence, RI (suddenly of heart attack when attending a luncheon in Providence) June 16, 1905. Married in 1875 to Adelia Catherine Parsons in  Hyde Park, MA)


RICHARDS, JOHN WESLEY
Born in Lincolnville, Maine March 17, 1833 (son of Isaac and Lydia <Thompson> Richards). Made a Master Mason in Lafayette Lodge Mar. 19, 1864. He was a scythe maker at North Wayne many years; afterwards was engaged there in a general store. Later removed to Foxboro, MA and was for a number of years a commercial traveler. Died in Foxboro, MA Feb. 19, 1909. (Married Mary Amanda Atwood, a Readfield native, dgt of Jonathan and Mary <Beedy> Atwood. John Wesley Richards and his wife are buried in Rock Hill Cemetery in Foxboro, MA)


RICHARDSON, GEORGE FROST
Born in Readfield Aug. 2, 1828 (son of Ebenezer and Relief <Eaton> Richardson) Made a Master Mason in Lafayette Lodge Dec. 7, 1867; S.S. 1870; S.W. 1873; Master 1874-75; Chaplain 1881 and 1883; Marshall 1885-1889. With the exception of a few years as a bookkeeper in Baltimore, Maryland he spent his whole life in Readfield engaged in farming. Died in Readfield Oct. 21, 1889. (Married Abigail Ann Jose of Readfield in 1855. Buried in Readfield Corner Cemetery)


RODERICK, JOHN BAPTISTE
Born Jan. 18, 1848 in St. Victor de Tring, County Bosse, P.Q. Canada and came to Maine with his parents when a small boy. Made a Master Mason in Lafayette Lodge Sep. 4, 1880; S.W. 1895-96. For many years he has been one of the skilled workmen in the scythe factories at Fayette, North Wayne and Oakland. Now (1909) lives in Oakland. (Married Annie E Randall in 1874. Died in Wayne in 1919)


RUSSELL, GEORGE ALMON
Born Jan. 8, 1842 in Avon, Maine (son of Reuben and Anna <Masterman> Russell below). Raised to Sublime degree of Master Mason in Lafayette Lodge April 18, 1865; Secretary 1866 to 1872; S.W. 1876-77. Educated at Maine Wesleyan Seminary (Kents Hill School). Superintendent of Schools at Readfield; selectman for 6 years 1871-77; Secretary of Kennebec County Agricultural Society; railway mail clerk 1877-81; superintendent of mails at Augusta P.O. 1881-86. Member of the Maine House of Representatives in 1877 and 1905 and in the Senate in 1887. Steward of Wilbraham Academy, Wilbraham, MA 1887-1902; trustee of the same as well as at Maine Wesleyan Seminary at Kents Hill. He was 2nd Lieut. of Co. F, 21st Maine Vol. Infantry which was part of Gen. Banks command in Louisiana. He is a member of Seth Williams Post G.A.R. at Augusta and Maine Commandery of the Loyal Legion. He was appointed the agent of the State to erect the monument over the grave of Gov. Jonathan G. Hunton. He lives at Readfield (large brick house at 33 Old Kents Hill Rd. in 1909, where he spent summers. Winters were spent in Wilbraham). (Married Lydia Millett of Leeds, ME in 1862. Died in Wilbraham, MA in 1941. buried in Readfield Corner Cemetery)


RUSSELL, REUBEN
Born Feb. 14, 1817 in Weld, Maine Ephraim and Rebecca <Ireland> Russell) Made a Master Mason in Lafayette Lodge Apr. 27, 1861; J.S. 1861; Chaplain 1862-63, 1872-73, 1885. He was elected an Honorary Member Mar. 2, 1902. He has always been a farmer (on Church Rd., north / adjacent to Readfield Corner Cemetery. No longer there) until age and infirmities have obliged him to relinquish all work. (Married Anna Masterman of Weld in 1841. Died 1910 in Readfield, buried in Readfield Corner Cemetery)
